🛡️

Zero-Server Cloud Sync

Pro roaming synchronization runs exclusively through your signed-in browser account (chrome.storage.sync) with zero external servers.

01. Introduction & Philosophy

This Privacy Policy explains how SnapSnippet - Developer Command Clipboard & Spotlight ("we", "our", or "the extension") handles user information across all supported browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Brave, and Chromium derivatives.

SnapSnippet was created by developers for developers. We understand that your workflow commands, database migrations, server commands, and API patterns are sensitive intellectual property. SnapSnippet is built as an offline-first tool that performs all fuzzy search indexing and clipboard actions locally inside your browser sandbox.

02. Data We Never Collect

We do not collect, intercept, record, sell, or disclose your command snippets or developer habits. Specifically, SnapSnippet does NOT collect:

  • Snippet Content & Titles: Your customized commands, SQL scripts, regex patterns, and notes are never uploaded to our servers.
  • Spotlight Search Queries: Terms typed into the fuzzy search bar (Ctrl+Shift+K) are evaluated purely in local JavaScript memory.
  • Browsing Activity & Visited URLs: We do not track which websites you browse or what tabs you have open.
  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): No names, email addresses, or IP addresses are harvested.
  • Telemetry & Usage Trackers: We do not include Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, or user tracking SDKs.

03. Data Stored On Your Local Device

SnapSnippet uses the standard browser storage API (chrome.storage.local) to persist your command snippets and application settings across browser restarts:

  • Built-In & Custom Snippets: Preloaded developer presets (Laravel Artisan, Docker, Git, SQL, Regex) and all custom snippets created by you.
  • Favorites & Starred Items: Pinned commands that appear at the top of your spotlight list.
  • Categories & Tags: Custom organizational tags you assign to your snippet collection.
  • UI Settings: Dark mode preferences and shortcut bindings.
💡 Resetting Data: You can export or clear your entire snippet database with one click in SnapSnippet Settings or by clearing your browser's extension data.

04. Browser Permissions Justification

In accordance with Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons Minimum Privileges Principle, SnapSnippet requests only essential permissions:

Permission Scope Why It Is Strictly Required
storage Local & Sync Storage Required to store your snippet database, category tags, favorites, and Pro sync state across browser sessions.
activeTab Active Tab Interaction Required when you trigger the global hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+K) to display the floating spotlight overlay on your currently active webpage.
scripting Content Script Injection Required to inject and manage the Spotlight modal overlay in the DOM of the active tab so you can search and copy commands without switching windows.
contextMenus Context Menu Integration Allows right-clicking highlighted text on any web page to quickly save it as a new custom snippet.

05. Zero-Server Roaming Sync & Gumroad API

1. Zero-Server Roaming Sync: SnapSnippet Pro features cross-device synchronization powered by Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome's native chrome.storage.sync. When you create or update snippets on your work desktop, your signed-in browser profile securely synchronizes them to your laptop. We operate no external databases or servers.

2. Gumroad License Verification: When you purchase SnapSnippet Pro on Gumroad and activate your license key, the extension makes a single, secure direct HTTPS call to the official Gumroad API (https://api.gumroad.com/v2/licenses/verify) to validate your license. Once validated, your Pro status is cached locally on your device.

06. Remote Code Compliance

SnapSnippet complies fully with Manifest V3 security requirements:

  • Zero remote code execution. No external scripts or libraries are downloaded from CDNs at runtime.
  • All fuzzy matching engines, spotlight styles, and command templates are packaged locally within the extension archive.

07. Data Retention & Erasure

We do not store your snippets on external servers. Uninstalling SnapSnippet from your browser (chrome://extensions or edge://extensions) immediately and permanently erases all locally saved snippets and preferences.

08. User Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Under GDPR and CCPA, you retain complete ownership of your data. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your information. You can export your full snippet library to JSON or delete all data at any time.

09. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

SnapSnippet is a developer productivity utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
