01. Introduction & Core Philosophy

This Privacy Policy explains how PureEdge CleanTab ("we", "our", or "the extension") handles user information exclusively for Microsoft Edge browser users.

Our philosophy is uncompromising: Your new tab dashboard is your personal workspace, not an advertising channel. The extension runs entirely client-side inside your browser sandbox and communicates with no external proprietary servers for data harvesting or analytics.

02. Data We Never Collect

We believe the best way to safeguard user privacy is never to possess your data in the first place. PureEdge CleanTab does NOT collect, monitor, transmit, sell, or disclose:

  • Browsing History & URLs: We do not track or log which websites you visit or how long you spend on them.
  • Personal Identifiable Information (PII): No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials are collected.
  • Keystrokes & Search Input: Search terms typed into the search bar are sent directly to the search provider selected by you (e.g., DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing). PureEdge does not log or intermediate search queries.
  • IP Addresses & Geo-Coordinates: We do not record your IP address or request your precise GPS location.
  • Telemetry & Usage Analytics: We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, PostHog, or any user tracking SDK.

03. Data Stored On Your Local Device

To provide a personalized dashboard experience across browser restarts, PureEdge CleanTab saves your custom preferences using the standard browser storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data is stored strictly in your browser's private local directory and is never sent to our servers.

Locally stored items include:

  • Appearance & Theme: Your selected 4K wallpaper preset, dark/light theme toggle, custom wallpaper URL, and widget toggles.
  • World Clock Preferences: Selected international timezones (e.g., New York, London, Tokyo, Dhaka) to calculate time offsets.
  • Daily Tasks & Scratchpad: Your todo items, task completion status, and multi-line notes.
  • Quick Link Shortcuts: Custom bookmarks and shortcuts you add to your dashboard dock.
  • Widget Toggles: Visibility toggles for the clock, weather, quotes, tasks, soundscapes, and search bar.
  • Turbo RAM Saver Thresholds: Inactivity interval choice (e.g., 5 min, 15 min, 30 min).
💡 Data Portability: You can wipe or reset this data at any time through the PureEdge CleanTab Settings drawer or by simply clearing your browser's extension storage or uninstalling the extension.

04. Browser Permissions Justification

In adherence to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Least Privilege Principle, PureEdge requests only the minimum permissions essential for its stated features:

Permission Scope Why It Is Strictly Required
storage Local Sandbox Required to persist user preferences (tasks, selected wallpaper, world clocks, shortcuts) locally on your device.
tabs Tab Management Required exclusively for the Turbo RAM Saver feature to enumerate inactive background tabs and invoke chrome.tabs.discard() to free system memory, and to open shortcuts clicked by the user. PureEdge does not read tab content.
alarms Background Timing Required to run periodic 5-minute background maintenance timers that check whether inactive tabs have exceeded your inactivity threshold.
incognito: spanning InPrivate Mode Allows users who explicitly enable InPrivate access to enjoy the clean, distraction-free new tab inside private windows.
Host: *.msn.com/*
Host: *.bing.com/*
Host: edge.microsoft.com/*
Content Script Injection Required solely for the MSN Purger & Anti-Nag Shield (purger.js) to remove clickbait news feed DOM containers and dismiss default browser nag banners on startup.

05. Third-Party Web Services

PureEdge CleanTab integrates with a minimal set of privacy-respecting external services for specific optional dashboard widgets:

  • Open-Meteo Weather API (Optional): If you choose to enable the weather widget and specify a city, the extension fetches current temperature and conditions from Open-Meteo. Open-Meteo is an open-source weather provider that does not require an API key and does not log personal IP addresses.
  • Search Engine Redirection: The dashboard search input redirects your query to your chosen engine (DuckDuckGo, Google, or Bing). All interactions on the destination search page are governed by that provider's respective privacy policy.
  • Gumroad Pro Licensing (Optional): If you purchase and activate PureEdge Pro, your license key is verified via HTTPS directly against Gumroad's official API (api.gumroad.com) to authenticate your receipt. No personal browsing history or usage metrics are attached to this verification.

06. Data Retention & Deletion

Because PureEdge CleanTab does not operate remote databases or user accounts, we retain none of your data on external servers. All information remains on your physical device.

When you uninstall the extension from your browser (edge://extensions), your browser immediately and permanently erases all associated local storage, settings, and cached preferences.

07. User Rights (GDPR & CCPA / CPRA)

Under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right of Access & Portability: All data is stored in plain JSON within your browser's local storage and can be inspected or exported at any time.
  • Right to Erasure: You can delete all data at will with zero impediment by uninstalling the extension.
  • Right to Opt-Out: PureEdge CleanTab does not sell, rent, or share personal data with data brokers or ad networks.

08. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

PureEdge CleanTab is safe for all audiences. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will verify that zero data exists.

09. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect extension updates or browser store regulatory requirements. Any modifications will be posted directly to this URL with an updated "Effective Date" timestamp. Your continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
